FAQ

  • WHAT IS A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Sports massage is the manual manipulation of the muscles geared specifically toward helping people who have physically demanding lifestyles and/or hobbies. This kind of therapeutic massage considers the impact of certain activities on specific joints, muscle groups, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissue groups.
  • CAN ANYONE HAVE A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Absolutely! You do not have to participate in any sports to have/need a sports massage. The simple daily motions we all go through can leave our muscles tired and aching, and in need of some TLC. This is where a sports massage will help.
  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SPORTS MASSAGE?
    • Increased joint range of motion (ROM) • Increased flexibility • Decreased muscle tension and soreness by reducing adhesions within soft tissues, allowing free, unrestricted movement • Increased muscle recovery • Reduced stress and anxiety as massage induces relaxation, and in turn reduces stress and anxiety • Reduces pain as it reduces muscle tension and releases natural endorphins • Increased blood circulation and delivery of nutrients to muscle tissue • Increased sense of wellbeing • Better sleep
  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY SPORTS MASSAGE?
Once I have gone through the assessment process and asked you questions in relation to your reasons for booking, I will work through the problem area of your body to release the aches and pains, and reduce/remove the knots from your muscles
  • WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BE READY FOR A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Make sure you’re well hydrated, eat only a light meal before the massage, and wear some comfortable clothing. If you have long hair, be prepared to tie it up.
  • HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER MY MASSAGE?
Relaxed, maybe a little sleepy, and the following day you may feel a little touch-tender where I have massaged you, this is all completely normal and expected. Avoid alcohol for the rest of the day after your massage, and take it steady – no strenuous exercise for 24 hrs. Also, be ready to be given some self-care stretches/exercises to do in the following days after your massage to aid the muscle recovery.
  • WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE AN INITIAL CONSULTATION?
As the initial consultation includes a postural assessment and range of motion testing, this allows me to check your body for any muscular compensation which will cause your posture to be out of line. I’ll also check your range of motion in the joints which are causing you any issues. As well as the physical information gathering, I’ll also ask you relevant questions about your day-to-day activities to help me build a picture of how best to treat you, and advise any preventative measures you can apply going forward.
